There's also foot drums you can use that basically have a pickup in them and can act as a kick drum or snare or many different drums if you don't want a drum machine. You could even use a violin bow on your guitar or an ebow to sound more violin-like.

There's also synth pedals and pedals to make you sound like a cello or an organ. There are a million octave pedals out there and also guitars with bass strings. I had an RC-3 but its not complex enough and it sucked tone from my guitar. Then you can decide what sort of additional "band members" you want (bass, piano/synth, and/or drums). All of that goes through the twin looper and she layers accordingly and then takes stuff away when she starts to sing. Her thing is a loop pedal (RC-30) while playing guitar, pedals to make her guitar sound like a bass (octave pedal and I think an EQ to cut out the highs), then a Roland SP-404 for drums and a korg synth (both of which are easy to get used for a good price). I think Tash Sultana does an amazing job at the one-woman band thing (check out her tiny desk concert). So I'm in a similar boat and will share what I do. I only have so much money so I'm trying to figure out which purchase is the most crucial. I have Cubase LE 5 which is my DAW for recording and I used to have a shitty version of Reason for some live midi action, but I have been looking at Reason 10. Should I get a sampler/looper? How about pedals so I can do things on the fly? Any help appreciated.Įdit: Forgot to add that I have a Akai MPK25 MIDI controller and a Tascam US-1641 Audio Interface. So I have a guitar/amp set up as well as plenty of cables and mics.

I now only play acoustic sets, but I want to be more full in the future. I was thinking it would make the most sense to play guitar/sing in a live setting.

What are the crucial purchases in your opinion that I need to make? I play guitar/bass/drums and write everything myself. I have tried and failed to get a band together multiple times (rural area, not a lot of musicians) and am only now starting to accept that if I want to play more live gigs, I will have to go it on my own.

I have an album's worth of material easily and am trying to prepare the future. I've recently just gotten back into writing/recording.
